Asus Transformer Book T100HA and Flip TP200SA are out, affordable convertibles

If a tablet is just too limiting for you in terms of productivity but a full-fledged laptop is too large and you insist on touch operation, Asus has a new pair of convertibles to address that predicament, in two different ways.

The Transformer Book T100HA is a two-piece affair consisting of a tablet and a detachable keyboard dock. The tablet has a 10.1-inch display with a 1,280 x 800 pixels resolution for a somewhat coarse 149ppi. An Intel Atom x5-Z8500 processor is in charge of computing, with a burst frequency as high as 2.24GHz.

You get a choice of 2GB or 4GB of RAM and storage options are 32/64/128GB, but with Windows 10 Home/Pro on board you'd be better off sticking to the higher numbers. Instead of having one port total, the T100HA has one of each: USB Type-C, full-size USB 2.0, microUSB 2.0, and micro HDMI, plus a 3.5mm jack, of course.
The keyboard attaches to the tablet thanks to neodimium magnets and the whole assembly weighs a kilo and change. The tablet itself is 580g and its 30Whrs battery should be good for 12 hours, Asus claims. A total of four colors will be available, with the anodized aluminum body dressed in either Tin Grey, Silk White, Aqua Blue or Rouge Pink attire.
The Transformer Book Flip TP200SA takes a different route. Its keyboard is constantly attached and can reverse completely behind the display when you want to go in full tablet mode. Asus rates the metal hinge at 20,000 turns, which makes for 27 swings a day for two years, after you've inevitably done 300 test flips on day one.

This one comes with a 11.6-inch 1,366 x 768 pixel display, Pentium N3700 quad-core or a Celeron N3050 dual-core processor and up to 4GB of RAM. You get a 32/64GB eMMC storage or a 128GB SSD. Rich in connectivity too, the Flip TP200SA has two full-size USB ports (1x2.0, 1x3.0), a USB Type-C and micro HDMI.
The Flip runs on Windows 10 Home/Pro as well, and should last up to 8 hours. Packing a 38Whrs battery, it's slightly heavier at 1.2kg, so hand holding it in tablet mode is definitely not an 8-hour task.
The 2-in-1 Asus Transformer Book T100HA can already be pre-ordered with prices starting at $299/€309 for the base 2GB RAM/32GB storage model, while the TP200SA will start at $349.
